Week 6: Trophy Part 1

Image
Placeholder images. Week 6: This week, we continued with our groups in our 3D sculpture course. My group was to work on woodcutting to create a trophy this time by using a laser wood cutter and Adobe Illustrator. Here are the results of the second week working on it. There were a few mistakes but it allowed me to reflect on and improve the design. Craft: For the craft, I used the following equipment: Adobe Illustrator, a Mac computer, flash drive, a laser cutter, Baltic plywood, tape, a straight edge, and wood glue. Adobe Illustrator was used to creating the file in which the laser cutter would use as a guide to cut out the shapes of the design that I had created. The laser would cut out the shapes, and the wood glue would blind the shapes together forming a single shape. Using an extensive array of tabs, the pieces would interlock and stick together cohesively. The concepts of space were used in this process because to clearly define what sides were going to h...

Week 5: Woodcutting Introduction

Week 5: This week, we transitioned our groups into the next medium for our 3D sculpture course. My group was to work on woodcutting to create a box using a laser wood cutter and Adobe Illustrator. We had used it beforehand in a previous class but I was fairly rusty with it. But not long after getting back into it, I became familiar with it again. Here are the results of the first week working on it. Craft: For the craft, we used the following equipment: Adobe Illustrator, a Mac computer, flash drive, a laser cutter, Baltic plywood, and Wood Glue. Illustrator was used to creating the file in which the laser cutter would use as a guide to cut out the shapes of each side of the cube. The laser would cut out the shapes, and the wood glue would blind the shapes together forming a single shape. The concepts of space were used in this portion of the process since we had to clearly define what sides were going to have certain sizes and tabs. Some could not be the same size...

Week 4: VR Video Showcase

Week 4: For this week, the class was finishing up our first medium for this class. For my group, it was the Virtual Reality painting. In these last few weeks, we have created two major projects. The first was the community garden in which we as a group created our own plots of land with our own made-up plants, VR versions of real plants, and a landscape of our own design and choosing. The second project was a cityscape in which comprised of each of us creating three buildings that were of differing purposes, styles, and designs. However, the caveat was that they had to be of a single color and its many tints and hues as well as a small amount of its complimentary color. After that we were to create a thirty second video showcasing our creations. See the videos above. Craft: For the craft, we used the following equipment: VIVE Virtual Reality Headset, Tilt Brush by Google, a Mac computer, Adobe Premiere, Abode Media Encoder CC, GarageBand, and a flash drive. For the actual...

Week 3: Garden and Cityscape VR

Image
Week 3: This week for our class, we continued in our three groups. We were instructed to create using the VIVE VR Headset two projects, one was a garden and the other was a cityscape. It took a lot of work and time, but here are the results. What we had to keep in mind were the concepts of self, space, and place when constructing these pieces. Craft: For our equipment for these projects, we utilized the following: Tilt Brush by Google, the Virtual Reality headset, VIVE w/ the VR controllers that came with VIVE, and the dedicated PC for VIVE. Other materials included sketchbooks and pencils to sketch out preliminary ideas of our projects, and a flash drive. All of these materials were used with the idea of space and dimension in mind while the process was ongoing. We also used the in-software programs to record clips and screen shots for later use. For Composition,  we went straight into the virtual reality. My group was tasked with creating a virtual ...

Week 2: Plant Sketching - Garden VR

Image
Week 2: This week for our class, we were divided into three groups. For the semester, we will be working with each other on various projects. Our teams are as followed: Laser cutter, 3D printer, and Virtual Reality. I was assigned the VR group. Our first assignment for our group was illustrating plants and from understanding how they work and appear, we were tasked with making up our own and transferring them into a community garden file on Tilt Brush, an app with VIVE headset capabilities. Craft: We used a thick drawing paper that we folded in half, drawing pencils, and pencils. We also also used our phones to take snapshots of plants to use for our sketching. For that, we simply took out our phones and took snapshots of the plants that we found interesting and compelling. We created ten sketches of plants we took photos of around the Visual Arts Center. From there, we created five made up plants for our next assignme...
